Places to visit Peru

| Sapa Pana Travel

In Peru you will find many sights to visit for an unforgettable tour. With the Andes, the Amazon and the coast, Peru is a diverse country. The country is ideal for adventurers, a must for culture lovers, but above all, it is a beautiful country for people who enjoy beautiful journeys. But which sights are there, and which can't be missed during a trip through Peru? Here we have listed the most important places to visit in Peru.

Lima; the culinary hotspot of the moment

For a long time, Lima was the most important city in South America. For two centuries the city served as a seat for the deputy of the Spanish King. It will therefore not surprise you that Lima has a lot of history. Make a city walk and learn more about this history. Lima is also known as the culinary hotspot of Latin America. Both during lunch and dinner you can enjoy high quality dishes in the best restaurants. Be sure to eat a ceviche for lunch, then the fish just came out of the sea and it is irresistible

Amazon; a paradise of biodiversity

Almost half of Peru's territory is occupied by the Amazon. The Amazon basin is known for its unparalleled diversity of flora and fauna. Here you can spot the playful giant otter, colourful macaws and, if you are lucky, the jaguar. There are several lodges in the Peruvian Amazon with which we cooperate. If desired, we will be happy to tell you more about the possibilities. Another way to experience the Amazon is through a cruise. On board the luxurious Delfin Amazon cruises you sail along the lush forests, see the natural life at its best and enjoy the first-class service on board. Watch the video here for inspiration.

Machu Picchu

A tour through Peru is of course not complete without a visit to the Machu Picchu. This hidden city was discovered by accident in 1911 by the American Hiram Bingham. He was looking for the legendary city of Vilcabamba, when local farmers pointed out ruins on a hill overgrown by subtropical cloud forest. The discovery of Machu Picchu is considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the twentieth century. The combination of the impressive archaeology and the spectacular location make this place so incredibly special.

Empire of the Incas

Before the arrival of the Europeans, the immense Inca empire was ruled from Cuzco. The Sacred Valley around it was also very important for this population group. Today, the empire of the Incas is one of the most visited areas of Peru. Not strange because the ancient Inca culture is still very much alive here and as a traveller you can enjoy the scents, colours and local markets. Moreover, the surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful.

The mystical North

The north of Peru is a lot less known than the south. This part of Peru is mainly known for its unique pre-Inca archaeology and beautiful nature. Especially if you are interested in archaeology, then the north is an absolute must. Here you will find sites of various indigenous populations, such as Chan Chan, the tomb of Sipan and Kuelap.

Along the Peruvian coast

Peru lies for a large part on the coast. It may not be a typical beach destination, but along the coast Peru has sights that are definitely worth seeing. Think of Paracas with its rich wildlife, the life-sized figures in the dry landscape near Nazca and the oasis Huacachina where you can sandboard.

Driving in Peru

It may not be something you immediately think of, but in Peru you can easily visit the sights by rental car. The routes are beautiful and this way you will get to places where travellers rarely come. Drive through the Andes, along the coast or discover the Sacred Valley by rental car.
