In the middle of Guatemala you will find the town of Cobán. Here you are in a transition area between the cool highlands and the tropical rainforest. This creates special nature, such as the caves of Lanquín. An extensive cave system of several kilometres long and only partially explored. In addition to bats, these caves are also home to strangely shaped stalactites and stalagmites. 

Not far from these caves lies Semuc Champey, deeply hidden in the woods. Semuc Champey is considered by many to be Guatemala's greatest natural wonder; it consists of a series of swimable, turquoise pools on top of a 300-metre long natural limestone bridge. It's as fantastic as it sounds.

From Rio Dulce you can take a beautiful boat trip to the town of Livingston. This is the only Guatemalan town on the Caribbean coast and with the Garifuna people, who descended from former African slaves, the atmosphere here is completely different from the rest of Guatemala.
