Island hopping

The archipelago consists of 200 large and smaller islands and owes its name to the trade in pearls that used to be driven there by pirates such as Henry Morgan and Balboa. Pearls are still sold, but the main attraction is the turquoise water, lush vegetation, many tropical birds, the underwater world and hail-white beaches.

The island of Coiba, towards the west of Panama, has one of the largest coral reefs in the Pacific. The island is on the migration route of whales that occur here between June and October. Sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches between July and January. 

Inspired by Daniel Defoe's world-famous book 'Robinson Crusoe', American architect Benjamin Loomis decided to buy an idyllic island in the Gulf of Chiriqui and live there for 5 years. Here you can discover some of the best preserved hard and soft corals in the world, you will encounter many tropical fish in the beautiful reefs, including stingrays, lobsters, sea urchins and starfish.

“A different island for every day” as the original inhabitants, the Kuna Indians, say about the San Blas islands. Of all the islands, only 40 are inhabited by the Kuna who have their own language, customs, music, dance, culture and economic system. Until recently they paid here with coconuts.
