Whale watching in Argentina can be best done on the Atlantic Ocean near the Valdés peninsula. In this region, a very varied wildl life manifests itself, including penguins, seals, sea lions, whales and elephant seals.

Sea lions, elephant seals, commersons dolphins can be seen all year round in Peninsula Valdes.

Overnight stay at El Pedral lodge

This yellow 'semi-submarine' is a unique vessel that allows you to spot whales not only on deck, but also underwater. Where you often only see a snout or a tail of the whales from the deck, the 'Yellow Submarine' gives you the opportunity to see the animals completely under water. This is without doubt one of the most unique ways to spot whales.

Between June and December (Humpback) whales come to the coast of Argentina to have offspring. The whales can even be seen from the coast!

Orcas come ashore
The orcas around Valdés literally come onto the beach, with their whole bodies out of the water, for their prey. This phenomenon is almost exclusively seen at Península Valdés. Orcas are best seen in February, March and April.

Newborn penguins take their first steps
Between September and March there are three different penguin colonies around Península Valdés. The biggest colony counts 500.000 penguins. In November the newborn penguins take their first steps.

Fast and playful dusky dolphins
The dusky dolphin lives between December and March in the waters near Península Valdés. A unique experience when you can see a group of up to 100 dolphins swimming and jumping in front of your boat.
Península Valdés; World Heritage Fauna Reserve
The Valdés peninsula has been declared a World Heritage Fauna Reserve by UNESCO. The peninsula is known for being one of the best places in the world to spot whales. Here the whales come very close to the Argentinian coast. Península Valdés is located about 80 kilometers from the city of Puerto Madryn. The only town on Península Valdes is Puerto Pirámides. The place owes its name to the pyramid-shaped rocks around the bay where Puerto Pirámides is located. The roads on Península Valdés (about 400 km) are largely unpaved. The shape of Península Valdes, with its many sheltered bays and coves in combination with the waters rich in nutrients, makes all kinds of marine animals choose the calm waters as a breeding ground.
