Along the Peruvian coast

The Humboldt current flows off the rough coastline of Paracas. It is a sea current that flows all the way from the south of Chile along the west coast of South America. This current is rich in nutrients and therefore attracts a lot of fauna, such as various birds, sea lions, penguins, pelicans, flamingos, dolphins, and whales. You can visit the small archipelago Ballestas by boat, so you can admire all this wildlife from up close.

Huacachina is located near Ica, and is a small oasis in the middle of the desert. Lake Huacachina, which is believed to have healing properties, is surrounded by a beautiful landscape of palm trees, “huarangos” (acacias) and dunes.

Here, you will find the world-famous and life-size figures, which have been created in the dry landscape. The best way to look at these lines and figures, is from above, in a small airplane. The ‘how’ and ‘why’ from these figures still remains a mystery. Some of the lines are simplistic geometrical shapes, but others are beautiful and detailed animals, such as hummingbirds, lizards, condors, monkeys and spiders.

Nearby Ica and Huacachina, you will find one of the largest sand dunes in the world. The best way to experience this amazing landscape, is by sandboarding or by driving through the dunes with a dune buggy.

Pisco, the name might sound familiar to you. Pisco flourished because of the nearby vineyards, and derived its name from the pisco, Peru’s national brandy. Are you interested in how this famous drink is made? A visit to this town is highly recommended.
