A magnificent view from the Huayna Picchu
Machu Picchu is enclosed between two steep peaks: the Machu Picchu and the Huayna Picchu. From the Huayna Picchu, in the native Quechua language; 'young mountain top', there is a magnificent view of the Machu Picchu. Climbing the Huayna Pichu has to be reserved in advance and physically requires something from you, but it is definitely worth it!

The overwhelming Inca City
Machu Picchu is located on the border between the Andes and the Amazon, at an altitude of around 2,700 meters. By train you will travel from Cuzco to the village of Aguas Calientes in four hours. From here you take the bus, a 20-minute-ride, to Machu Picchu. In our trips we plan a visit to the Machu Picchu which is always with an English-speaking private guide. This hidden city was discovered by accident by the American Hiram Bingham in 1911. He was looking for the legendary city of Vilcabamba, when local farmers pointed the ruins overgrown by subtropical cloud forest on a hill out. The discovery of Machu Picchu is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century.
