Machu Picchu
The hidden city of the Incas
The discovery of Machu Picchu is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century. In addition to the impressive archaeology of Machu Picchu, the various buildings that have been found, it is also the spectacular setting that makes this place very special. A trip through Peru is not complete without a visit to the Machu Picchu.
The overwhelming Inca City
Machu Picchu is located on the border between the Andes and the Amazon, at an altitude of around 2,700 meters. By train you will travel from Cuzco to the village of Aguas Calientes in four hours. From here you take the bus, a 20-minute-ride, to Machu Picchu. In our trips we plan a visit to the Machu Picchu which is always with an English-speaking private guide. He will inform you extensively about this archaeological site and the Inca culture.
This hidden city was discovered by accident by the American Hiram Bingham in 1911. He was looking for the legendary city of Vilcabamba, when local farmers pointed the ruins overgrown by subtropical cloud forest on a hill out. The discovery of Machu Picchu is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century.
