Empire of the Incas
Fragrances, colours and local markets
Before the arrival of the Europeans, the immense Inca empire was ruled from Cuzco. The Sacred Valley around it was also very important for this population. Today, the empire of the Incas is one of the most visited areas of Peru. Not surprising, because the ancient Inca culture is still very much alive here and as a traveller you can enjoy the scents, colours and local markets.
Cuzco, the navel of the world
Cuzco is located at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters and after arrival you may temporarily experience a slight discomfort from the thin air here. Not bad at all, a good reason to take it easy and enjoy your trip even more. We advise you to stay in the historic centre of Cuzco, so you have all sights within walking distance. If you want to discover Cuzco on your own, be sure to stroll to the beautiful Plaza de Armas with its Cathedral and Jesuit Church. Drink a cup of coffee in one of the cafes above the colonnade that surrounds the square, absorb the colourful palette of scents and colours and enjoy the lively medley of past and present. This charm of Cuzco makes you want to stay longer than initially planned.
The Sacred Valley has a pleasant climate, overwhelming nature and picturesque villages. It is an absolute must to stay in one of the unique accommodations that can be found in this region. It is therefore an excellent base from where you can explore the area. Visit the colourful indigenous villages, make hikes through nature, go mountain biking, horseback riding or rafting. In short, there is plenty to do here.
