The name of the park 'Los Glaciares', which means glaciers, refers to the enormous glacier area, with as many as 14 large glaciers and more than 200 smaller glaciers, which is part of the great continental ice sheet.

Cracking ice and falling blocks of ice
You cannot have been in Patagonia without seeing the Perito Moreno glacier! The glacier is 60 metres thick and 5 kilometres long. Even if you stand in front of it, it is difficult to understand how big this mass of ice is. Impressive is the sound of creaking ice and the falling of the ice blocks.

Ice hike on the Perito Moreno
Another spectacular way to see more of the Perito Moreno Glacier is by walking over this huge ice mass. Accompanied by a guide and with crampons at your feet you will make an unforgettable hike and enjoy the surroundings. What a fantastic experience!

You will sail a breathtaking route in the National Park Los Glaciares, a.o. on the Argentino lake and in the (direct) vicinity of the Perito Moreno Glacier. In 3 days you sail along the most impressive ice fields, of which the Perito Moreno is undoubtedly the highlight. How insignificant you will feel when you see the glacier from the ship.

Along icefloes and glaciers
"The boat sails over the Argentine lake and the sun rises slowly. We are surrounded by mountains and the boat sails us to the Upsula glacier. I can't imagine the size until we get closer to the glacier and approach a few ice floes. In the distance they are still small, but the closer we get the bigger they get. At the end of the day, we pass a few ice floes that are bigger than the boat we are on, that is impressive", said Anke who made this boat trip.

Estancia Cristina
Estrancia Cristina is located in the middle of the park and can only be reached by the boat trip described here. From here you can make a hike with a viewpoint over the Upsula Glacier. In the afternoon visit the museum about the Master family who started living on this estate in 1914. A special place for a day trip or an overnight stay.

Hikes, multi-day treks or a nice day hike. The village of El Chaltén on the north side of the N.P. Los Glaciares is a great base for hiking. Highlights are the walks to the foot of the Fitz Roy massif or the Cerro Torre.

The name of the park 'Los Glaciares', which means glaciers, refers to the enormous glacier area, with as many as 14 large glaciers and more than 200 smaller glaciers, which is part of the great continental ice sheet. This is the largest mass of ice in the southern hemisphere outside the Antarctic and the world's 3rd largest fresh water reserve. Only 13 of these glaciers flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
The Los Glaciares National Park can be roughly divided into 2 parts, according to the location of 2 large lakes in the park; Lake Argentino in the south and Lake Viedma in the north. Next to Lake Viedma the north of Los Glaciares National Park offers the Viedma Glacier and a few smaller glaciers. There are also a number of beautiful mountain peaks, including Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, which are very popular with mountaineers and hikers. In the south of the Los Glaciares National Park the Argentino lake is fed by several large and small glaciers, including; the Perito Moreno glacier, the Upsala and the Spegazzini glacier. The latter can be reached by boat and the Perito Moreno can be reached by land.
Besides spectacular landscapes, the National Park Los Glaciares has an exuberant flora and fauna with many unique species. You will find special tree species such as the Alerce, Calefate and Guindo and rare animal species such as the grey fox, the guanaco and the puma. In this region there is a legend; "the one who tastes the fruit of Calafate, a small bush original from Patagonia, will always return for more...".
