Cruise Cape Horn and Falkland Islands
8 days - from € 7,995 per person
This is an example of an 8-day cruise where you will visit Cape Horn and the Falkland Islands. This expedition cruise can be booked in combination with a travel programme in Patagonia for example. At Sapa Pana Travel we work with a select number of small-scale cruises to Antarctica and the remote islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. If desired, we are happy to advise you on possible Antarctic cruises. Below you will find the description of an 8-day cruise aboard the Magellan Explorer that departs on Saturday 25th of September 2021.
Day 1: Ushuaia
Your journey starts at the port of Ushuaia in the south of Argentina. In the evening you will board and sail through the Beagle Channel towards Puerto Williams in Chile. This is the southernmost village in the world. From Puerto Williams you will sail this night in the direction of Cape Horn.

Day 2: Cape Horn
After a night sailing through the bay of Nassau you wake up right in front of the legendary Cape Horn! Weather permitting you will board a zodiac which will take you to the island. This makes you one of the few privileged adventurers who can visit this famous island. Again aboard the Magellan Explorer you will explore the area and set course for the Falkland Islands.

Day 3: At sea
This day you will sail through the South Atlantic Ocean in the direction of the Falkland Islands. You can take part in fascinating lectures and presentations given by our expert guides on board. Together you can look out for the wildlife you can see from the common areas or your own cabin. Seabirds, such as albatrosses and petrels, will fly by and you may even see different species of whales.

Day 4: The west of the Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands consist roughly of two main islands, west and east. Located in the south of West Falkland you will find places like New Island, Weddell Island and West Point. Dramatic cliffs contrast with sheltered sandy bays and naturally created harbours. In these places you will find a large concentration of wildlife. Some of the most extraordinary nature experiences can be found just a stone's throw away from the settlements on the island.

Day 5: The west of the Falkland Islands
From the south you sail to the north of West Falkland. Here you will visit Caracass Island which is characterised by rocky ridges, steep cliffs, open plains, white sandy beaches and bays. You will then go ashore to the island of Saunders, which has a very varied landscape. From rocky hills to vast coasts. This island is an important bird area and you will be able to see all five species of penguin, as well as the eyebrow-breeding albatross and many other species of birds.

Day 6: The Falkland Sound
The Falkland Sound is the strait that separates West-Falkland and East-Falkland. The strait is about 90 km long and at its narrowest point 4 km wide. Today you sail through this strait while you see rugged and unspoilt landscapes on either side. Here you will also learn more about the past and recent history of the islands. You will visit some of the settlements, meet the locals and learn more about the culture of the peasant families who live here. You will also stop at several places where the battlefields took place during the 1982 conflict. The historian on board will tell you more about this war.

Day 7: Stanley harbour
Today you can choose from several options. Join the expedition team on a tour of the city or visit the Gipsy Cove. Gipsy Cove is only 7 kilometres away from the town of Stanley. This is the most accessible place where you can find wildlife. The narrow bay with sandy beach is shielded from the cutting winds. This makes the place an excellent location for magellanic penguins to breed. But other species also like to come here. You can also choose to go out on your own and experience the local atmosphere for yourself.

Day 8: Falkland Islands - Punta Arenas
Today you will be taken to Mt. Pleasant airport on the Falkland Islands. From here you will fly to Punta Arenas in Chile. Your unique cruise trip is over, but you can continue your journey from here. We will gladly advise you about the possibilities.
